United Way of Wells County elects board members to direct the mission of the organization.  These board members are taken from a broad spectrum of sectors and demographics.

Tim Babcock

Tim Babcock

Timothy K. Babcock is a partner with the law firm of Dale, Huffman & Babcock. He received his undergraduate education from Indiana University and his legal education from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to his work with United Way, he is a board member for the Wells County Foundation and is actively involved in the Bluffton Rotary Club, Junior Achievement of Wells County, and the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton. He and his wife, Julie, reside in Bluffton with their two children, Miles and Max.

Doug Brown

Doug Brown is the President and Publisher of the News-Banner in Bluffton. Prior to his current position, Doug was the Publisher of The Post & Mail in Columbia City and later served as the Executive Director of the Whitley County Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of IPFW. In addition to his service with the United Way, he is involved with the Bluffton Rotary Club, Bluffton NOW!, Wells County Leadership Academy and the Wells County Chamber of Commerce. Doug and his wife Larisa have two children, Chandler and Seth.

Peter Confer

Peter Confer

A life-long resident of Wells County, Peter Confer has been involved in community banking for over 35 years. A CPA, his current position is Cashier/Controller at Bank of Geneva. He has been involved with the United Way of Wells County for a number of years as a contributor, member of the financial review committee, and, most recently, joining the Board of Directors. His previous involvements have been serving on the board and committees of The Wells County Foundation, Inc., the Wells County Chamber of Commerce, and the Northern Wells Community Schools Board of Trustees. Peter and his wife, Doby, have three adult children and one grandson.

Tim Fiechter

Tim Fiechter is the founder and CEO of Rethceif Packaging. Rethceif designs and manufactures end of line packaging equipment for customers in many industries, including animal bedding products, feeds, seeds, fibers, cotton and insulation. Tim grew up on a local farm before pursuing a business career. His background includes work in the agriculture and automation industries, with the majority of his career spent in sales and marketing of technical products. Tim and his wife Vicki are the parents of three children and grandparents of four. Tim enjoys traveling with Vicki, flying, running and golfing.

Karyn Gilly

Karyn Gilly has lived in Bluffton for the last 10 years. She came to Bluffton as the Director of Patient Financial Services for Caylor Nickel Medical Center. Currrently she is the Operations Director for Bluffton Physician Services. Karyn has worked with the United Way in some capacity off and on since 1973. Most recently she has worked with the Vision Council and been the campaign chair for the Medical Division for the last 4 years. Karyn Is married to Larry Gilly and has three children and 9 grandchildren.

Julie Meitzler

Julie Meitzler

Mrs. Julie Meitzler joined the Bluffton-Harrison MSD staff as a third grade teacher in August 1986. She has taught grades two, three, and four for 18 years and has served as an administrator for seven years and is in her third year as principal at Bluffton-Harrison Elementary School. Mrs. Meitzler earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 1986 and has since earned her Master's Degree and obtained her Administrator's License from IPFW. Mrs. Meitzler has taught multiple semesters at IPFW in the education department and has been a consultant for Smekens' Education and has served on a curriculum committee for the Indiana Department of Education. Julie resides in Bluffton with her husband, Mike, and is a mother of two children, Jessica and Mitchel.

Chris Parke

Chris Parke is the CFO for Bluffton Motor Works located in Bluffton. Prior to joining BLMW, Chris was the Sr VP for Shuttleworth, Inc, in Huntington, IN and VP of Finance & Administration for Connor Corporation in Fort Wayne. Before moving to Fort Wayne 16 years ago Chris worked in various financial roles in the Ohio and Michigan divisions of SPX Corporation. Chris has degrees from The Ohio State University and the University of Toledo. He and his wife, Beverly, have two daughters and live in Fort Wayne.

John Purcell

John Purcell

John Purcell is the principal of Southern Wells Elementary School where he has served since 2012. Prior to this, he was an elementary principal in Huntington County for fourteen years and in the Smith-Green Community School Corporation (Churubusco) for six years. In addition, he has directed curriculum, grant programs, transportation, and professional development at the school corporation level. John holds education degrees from Ball State University and Indiana University. He has served on boards for the Churubusco Community Childcare Center and the Whitley County Community Foundation. Currently he is a member of the Wells County School Safety Commission. John and his wife live in Warren and have two grown children.

Patty Randall

Patty Randall

Patty Randall is a life-long resident of Wells County. For the past 16 years she has worked in the banking industry. She started her career with National City Bank (Currently PNC Bank) in 1997. During her 13 ½ years with National City Bank she held titles of Customer Service Representative, New Accounts Representative, Assistant Sales Manager, and Training Specialist. Her position for the last 2 ½ years is as the Banking Center Manager at 1st Source Bank in Bluffton. In addition to being a current board member, she served as the Finance Chair for the 2012 United Way Campaign. Mrs. Randall also serves on the Executive Board for Junior Achievement in Wells County.

Jody Saige

Jody Saige

Jody Saige is the CIO at the First Bank of Berne, located in Berne, Indiana. Jody, his wife Megan, and their two children moved to Bluffton in January of 2015. Prior to joining the First Bank of Berne, Jody worked for Interra Credit Union in Goshen, IN and served as a long time board member and past president of the Goshen Noon Optimist Club. Before moving into the field of banking, Jody taught math and science at Goshen High School after receiving his certification from Indiana University. Jody also has a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Roger Sherer

Roger Sherer

Roger Sherer is the Extension 4-H Youth Development Educator and County Director of the Purdue Extension Service in Wells County. He is a native of Noble County Indiana and he attended Purdue University. Roger is past President of the Indiana Extension 4-H Youth Educators Association and the Indiana Extension Service professional development association, Epsilon Sigma Phi. He presently serves as an instructor with the Wells County Leadership Academy, member of the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and serves on the advisory board for Teen Court and Youth as Resources. Roger is active in the Bluffton Optimist Club and is a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Roger lives in Bluffton and in his free time enjoys traveling, gardening, genealogy, bicycling and following Purdue sports.

Rick Singer

Rick Singer

VP of Administration

Richard Singer is the plant manager of the Buckhorn manufacturing facility in Bluffton, Indiana. Buckhorn, Inc. designs and manufactures packaging and material handling systems including containers, pallets, and dunnage for industrial, agricultural and commercial applications. Prior to joining Buckhorn, Singer was an international consultant on flexible manufacturing processes with United Technologies Corporation. He also served as operations manager and plant manager at the UTC plant in Berne, IN. He has held operations and engineering management positions at Sheller Globe Corporation and General Tire. Singer holds a degree in operations management from Bowling Green State University and has received the American Production Control Society’s Certification for Production and Inventory Management.

Gregory Werich

Gregory Werich

Greg Werich has served as an Indiana probation officer since 1987, and for the Wells County Circuit and Superior Courts since 1993. He was appointed Wells County's chief probation officer in 1997. He has participated in many local, state, and national associations, advisory boards and committees related to his vocation. Greg received his Bachelors of Arts degree in 1986 from Purdue University. He later earned his Masters of Public Affairs degree in 1997 from Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. Greg also graduated in 2001 from the Governor's Commission - Indiana Leadership Institute. Greg considers himself to be blessed to be husband to Kelly and father to Ainsley and Hudson.
